The McCormick School of Engineering, in partnership with the Northwestern Innovation Institute, is seeking to fill an open rank, tenure-track or tenured, full-time faculty position, open to be part of any McCormick department, for academic year 2027-2028.

We are seeking a scholar studying how AI reshapes innovation, knowledge production, scientific discovery, organizational decision-making, or networks. The position is responsible for conducting advanced research in chosen areas of expertise and interest; supervising doctoral candidates; teaching basic and advanced courses in their department at the undergraduate, master's and/or doctoral level; and contributing to the research and teaching of other faculty members.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field in hand or expected by the employment start date. Selection criteria include research record, adaptability, teaching ability, and recommendations. Sponsorship for an H-1B visa may be available for qualified candidates, subject to institutional policies and applicable immigration regulations.

Application materials

The application package should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of research accomplishments and interests, a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, and, if available, representative manuscripts, whether published, submitted or in preparation. Applicants in the process of completing a doctoral degree should include an approved dissertation proposal or a research paper representing progress in the dissertation. Candidates will be asked to provide contact information for three references on the application site.

Before you apply

Applications are accepted only via online submission. Prepare all documents in advance as PDF files, and check that all information is entered correctly, particularly names and email addresses, as there is no opportunity for online revision once an application has been submitted. Prepare a list of names and email addresses for your external academic references; they will be contacted directly by the system and invited to upload letters on your behalf. All required fields are marked with an asterisk and must be completed before submitting. Note that incomplete applications cannot be saved.

Timeline

Application review begins September 1, 2026, and continues until the position is filled. Interviews begin in the Fall quarter.
